Examples of use of LIDAR
1. The NRC committee recommended use of lidar to develop the new elevations.
2. CloudSat was launched along with NASA‘s Cloud–Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observations satellite.
3. Lidar sends short light pulses from an aircraft and measures the time it takes them to bounce back, allowing it to calculate variations in ground level.
4. CloudSat and Cloud–Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observations (CALIPSO) eventually will circle about 705 kilometers above Earth in a sun–synchronous polar orbit.
5. Gareth Rees and Neil Arnold of Cambridge University are using a laser measuring instrument called Lidar, flown on a Dornier 228 aircraft, to measure in pinpoint detail the topography of glaciers.
